About Dr. Cara Cargo-Froom, Ph.D.

Cara Cargo-Froom is a post-doctoral research fellow with Mad Barn in the department of Animal Biosciences with Dr. Jennifer Ellis at the University of Guelph. Cara holds a BSc in Animal Biology and an MSc and PhD in Animal Nutrition. The main focus of Cara’s PhD was to compare methodologies used to assess protein quality with sub focuses of pulses as a source of dietary protein for swine and impact of processing on the nutritional profile of pulses.. Cara has a broad range of research experience which she brings to the table including feed processing, in vitro lab studies, and animal studies (canine, swine, poultry). In addition to her research experience, Cara has worked for Trouw Nutrition and Champion Petfoods, and has worked as a teaching assistant (Pet nutrition, Introduction to Equine Nutrition, Advanced Equine Nutrition) and instructor (Introduction to Equine Nutrition, Wildlife Nutrition) within the department of Animal Biosciences . Cara will utilize the many different skill sets she has gained to assess the in vitro digestibility and degradability of equine feedstuff, where data will contribute to building an Equine Metabolism Model
