Dorothy – thanks for the questions. The Omnneity – Equine Mineral and Vitamin Premix does not contain any starch or sugar, it is just mineral and vitamin. In the pellet we utilize oat bran as the pelleting agent. And we never add iron to any of our products. As always, we provide free shipping in Canada – even Thunder Bay.
I just bought the omnity for my IR horses as recommended by the IR group. I find it has 900 mg of iron. Is it still safe to feed to my IR horses?
Kathie,
The short answer is, yes it is safe to feed. All mineral and vitamins will have some level of iron in them. What you want to avoid is added iron, usually in the form of ferrous sulfate or iron oxide. What is important to look at is the total intake of iron. Omneity is a very concentrated supplement, fed at 120 grams per day, so only 108 mg/day is contributed from the mineral supplement. In contrast your hay alone is contributing 1,500 – 2,500 mg/day.
