Dr. Reeds Formula 1 was an equine mineral and vitamin supplement popular on Vancouver Island due to its inclusion of selenium. This supplement is no longer available.

Dr. Reeds Equine Supplement – Formula 1 was a mineral and vitamin supplement formulated for horses on Vancouver Island which is known for having very low selenium content in the soil.

Selenium concentrations in the soil affect selenium content in hay and grass. Horses from Vancouver Island typically need a selenium supplement to ensure they are not deficient.

This supplement provided 30 mg/kg of organic selenium in the form of selenized yeast. Dr. Reeds Formula 1 also contained other vitamins and minerals required to balance the equine diet.

The Formula 1 mineral and vitamin supplement contained 5000 mg/kg added iron in the form of Ferrous Sulfate as well as Sugarcane Molasses, making this supplement inappropriate for metabolic horses. Dr. Reeds Formula 2 does not contain added iron and was better suited to horses that needed to avoid high iron levels.

This supplement is no longer manufactured following the retirement of Dr. Reeds.
