Equilibrium® XCEL HD is a high-fat feed from the Purina Platinum product line. This low glycemic feed contains higher fat and fibre content and is intended for equine athletes and hard keepers.
Mad Barn's Feed Bank provides nutritional profiles on +3,000 forages, feeds and supplements used in the equine diet. With our free diet formulation tool, this data can be used by horse owners and nutritionists to design balanced feeding programs for horses in their care.

XCEL HD is advertised as a reduced sugar/starch feed providing 12% fat from vegetable sources. This calorie-dense feed is designed to help maintain body condition and meet the energy needs of performance horses.

According to Purina, XCEL HD is recommended for equine athletes, racehorses, and horses that have trouble maintaining their bodyweight. Its high fat and fibre content can provide adequate caloric energy for horses in heavy work while reducing excitability and supporting regulation of blood glucose levels and insulin response.

Using a high-fat feed with low NSC (sugar and starch) content can help to reduce the risk of gut problems such as colic, hindgut acidosis, dysbiosis and starch overload.

XCEL HD also contains shredded beet pulp, which is a high pectin fibre source that supports energy metabolism from hindgut fermentation.

This complete feed further contains 0.4 mg/kg of selenium, probiotics and prebiotics, yeast cultures, and 300 IU/KG of Vitamin E.

The recommended minimum feeding rate for a 500 KG (1100 LB) horse at maintenance is 2.5 KG (5.5 LB) per day. If you are not feeding this amount, it will be necessary to feed a ration balancer or equine mineral and vitamin supplement in order to meet minimum vitamin and mineral requirements.

Feeding Rate: Feed in conjunction with water and a minimum of 1% body weight (on a dry matter basis) of a long stemmed forage (hay/pasture). Feed according to the following table, whereby the lower quantity meets minimum vitamin and mineral requirements and the higher quantity meets Purina Superior Recommendations.

Ideally, feed enough to achieve desired body condition, and for every kilogram under the recommendation, provide 225 grams of Purina Equilizer (35710).

Provide free-choice salt. Daily ration should be divided into 2 and preferably 3 separate feedings daily.
