Soybean Meal
Soybean meal is a high-protein feed ingredient produced after oil is removed from whole soybeans. It is one of the most commonly used protein sources in livestock and equine nutrition due to its high protein content. Soybean meal is considered a high-quality protein source because of its high digestibility and well-balanced amino acid profile. In particular, it is an excellent source of lysine, an essential amino acid crucial for muscle development and maintenance. Soybean meal is available in different forms, including solvent-extracted and mechanically processed variations, with the former containing higher protein content and lower residual fat.
In equine diets, soybean meal is primarily used to supplement protein intake, especially for young, growing horses, lactating mares, and performance horses with increased protein requirements. It supports muscle repair, immune function, and the production of enzymes and hormones
