Chasteberry powder supports normal hormone production and disposition in horses. It may work by supporting normal function of the pituitary gland. It may support a healthy metabolism, reproductive health, coat quality, and sex hormone regulation.
Chasteberry
Mad Barn’s bulk Chasteberry powder is an herbal supplement used to support normal hormone balance and pituitary gland function.
Chasteberry comes from the fruit and seeds of the chaste tree, also known as Vitex Agnus-Castus. This supplement is commonly given to horses to promote a balanced disposition, healthy coats, and to support normal hormone regulation in senior horses.
It is sometimes used to provide nutritional support to horses with Equine Cushing’s Disease (PPID) and Insulin Resistance. However, it should not be used as a replacement for pergolide in horses with Cushing’s disease (PPID). It is also given to easy keepers and horses with cresty necks and atypical fat deposits.
In traditional medicine systems, Chasteberry powder has long been used as an adaptogen, believed to support homeostasis and reduce stress in a wide range of physiological systems.
Research shows that chasteberry influences the activity of the neurotransmitter dopamine and the endocrine system. Chasteberry may promote a balanced disposition by improving sex hormone levels in mares.
It appears to work by modulating the secretion of prolactin from the pituitary gland which affects the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the ovaries.
This product should be used under the supervision of a veterinarian or other qualified equine health professional.
Chasteberry is not recommended for pregnant and lactating mares or growing horses. Its effects on the reproductive hormones have not been evaluated in these animals.
You should always consult a qualified nutritionist before altering your feed program. Submit your horse’s diet for analysis online and one of our equine nutritionists will be happy to provide a complementary review.
Consult with a nutritionist or veterinarian prior to use.
Top dress once daily on feed or ration.
