Laurie C. Cameron, DVM

Laurie developed her interest for horses and ponies while growing up on a small farm in Massachusetts and participating in both 4-H and Pony Club. An opportunity to ride and focus on her horse for a year after high school landed her a Pony Club externship with Dr. J. Allen Leslie at the Delaware Equine Center in Cochranville, PA. It was there that the path was forged to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Summers during her undergraduate years were spent grooming horses at the Longacre racetrack in Seattle, WA, as well as assisting at the respiratory lab at New Bolton Center.

Laurie completed her undergraduate work and graduated with honors from the University of Delaware. Returning to her home state she then received her DVM degree in 1988 from Tufts University. With an interest in working with Theriogenologist Dr. Dean Neely, she joined the staff at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center after graduating. In 1991 she started her own ambulatory practice, Laurie C. Cameron, DVM, initially based in Flemington before moving to Stockton, NJ. Areas of interest include performance horses, reproduction and wellness for all her patients.

On her farm she runs a small breeding program for Event and Jumper prospects. Laurie enjoys the day-to-day care as well as the journey of developing the horses into top athletes. Working with her own horses gives Laurie a unique perspective as they are an unending source of learning opportunities and provide the driving force to see not only hers’ but her clients’ horses develop over the long term and achieve their true potential. She actively participates in the FEH (Future Event Horse) and YEH (Young Event Horse) programs.

Laurie maintains memberships in the AVMA, AAEP, USEF, USEA, USHJA, USDF, AHS, OHBS and SWANA.

While working on her farm Laurie also enjoys her two cattle dogs (Georgia and Peaches), her two cats (Toasty and Waffles), as well as her small flock of Black Copper Marans, Lavender Orpingtons, and Ameracauna chickens. (Source)
