Lindsay Heinen, DVM

Dr. Heinen has worked very closely with the top-notch equine clinicians and residents at Iowa State University.

Dr. Lindsay Heinen is a born and bred Iowan that moved down to Georgia to join a premier equine practice as her first job out of veterinary school. She grew up in a small town outside of the Quad Cities where she graduated valedictorian from North Scott High School in Eldridge, Iowa. After high school Dr. Heinen attended a small Lutheran liberal arts college in northwest Iowa called, Wartburg College. Here, Dr. Heinen majored in biology and minored in Spanish. She was a part of an extensive research project that focused on the effects of growth hormones on neurons. Dr. Heinen was also an active member of the college’s IACUC committee where she over saw other research projects on campus that involved animals. She was able to study abroad in Costa Rica and travel all over Europe as a member of the highly-esteemed Wartburg Choir. During her time as an undergraduate, Dr. Heinen worked closely alongside a local equine veterinarian which allowed her to gain valuable hands on experience performing dental floats, lameness exams, and colic work-ups. Following her acceptance into Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Heinen moved to Ames to pursue her life-long dream of becoming an equine veterinarian. While in veterinary school, Dr. Heinen won a patient care award for her attentiveness to her patients both big and small. She also developed a keen interest in equine dentistry and equine ophthalmology. She worked very closely with the top-notch equine clinicians and residents at Iowa State University until her clinical year was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now finally a veterinarian, Dr. Heinen is ecstatic to be here in the South and to help you with any of your horse’s needs.

When she is not working at Central Georgia Equine Services Inc. you can find her around town running, at the local CrossFit gym, enjoying the outdoors, or snuggling her cat. (Source)
