Lizzy Aksten, DVM

Lizzy has had a passion for horses that began at a young age. As an active pony club member, this help to lay the foundation for her equine career.

She grew up in a drafty old New England farmhouse and chose to pursue an equine career before returning to college. She spent a year in England as a working student where she was able to compete her horse Buckingham in numerous horse trials and show jumping competitions. When she returned she helped manage her mothers Ashwood farm, which was a busy horse boarding and lesson operation. There she taught lessons, trained horses and continued to compete in eventing, competing through the intermediate level. She has taught a
few of the local pony clubs in NH and Massachusetts and also has experience as a pony club examiner and course designing. The decision to go to vet school seemed a natural extension of an already horsey life.

She obtained her undergraduate degree from New England College. This school was near to home so she could continue to work on the farm. She received her DVM from Ross University and attended Virginia Tech for her clinical year. While on the island she participated in open
water swimming as well as running on the beautiful sugar cane roads.

Lizzy graduated in September of 2018 and spent the winter as an intern at Rood and Riddle in Wellington Florida. Lizzy enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but has special interest in lameness and podiatry.

Her spare time is usually spent outdoors. She also enjoys gardening, playing the violin and baking. (Source)
