Matthew Allossery, DVM

Matt knew from an early age that he wanted to become a veterinarian. His fascination with horses began at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, where he was astounded by the raw speed, power and beauty of these incredible equine athletes. Motivated to turn his dream into reality, he dedicated his summers to gaining experience with horses and learning all he could about their management and care.

Matt worked for several breeding seasons at Sam Son Farm, a leading broodmare farm in Milton, Ontario. Sam Son was an incredible learning experience for him as he had the opportunity to work extensively with pregnant mares, foals and yearlings. Later, he studied lameness in Standardbred racehorses under the tutelage of Dr. Ken Armstrong, an equine surgeon and ambulatory practitioner serving Ontario’s Halton Region.

In 2012, Matt received his degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph.

After graduation, he spent two years at Lincoln Veterinary Services, a busy mobile equine practice in the Niagara, Ontario region. Here, he was fortunate to be mentored by Dr. James Crawford, who shared invaluable craft insights and professional knowledge related to managing and treating both pleasure and high-level performance horses (including young thoroughbred racehorses at Fort Erie Racetrack). Dr. Crawford continues to be a valuable resource for Matt, as well as a good friend.

In 2013, Matt traveled to Saudi Arabia, where he worked as a consultant and track veterinarian for NOFA Equestrian Stables prior to and during the annual Thoroughbred racing season at King Aziz Race Track in Riyadh.

Professionally, Matt takes pride in providing the best possible evidence-based care to his equine patients. He regularly advances his knowledge through continuing education and is particularly interested in equine breeding, equine dentistry and equine lameness diagnosis.

Matt fulfilled a long-held dream in early 2014 when he started his own practice, Allossery Equine Veterinary Services, serving Ontario’s York Region.

Matt is joined in his practice by his wife, Dr. Anna Allossery DVM. The doctors met as students at the University of Guelph and were married in 2010. Each brings special skills and training to their practice, and together, they seek to provide a true model of comprehensive mobile equine veterinary care.

Matt and Anna live in Mount Albert, Ontario, with their two beautiful young daughters, Maeby and Shirley, and their cat, Auston Catthews. (Source)
