North Country Riding Club was established in 2001 as an active non-profit organization that offers equitation and game shows for all equine enthusiasts throughout the state. Our Club is funded through sponsorships, entry fees, and membership fees. Most of our members own their own horses but are not required in order to be a member.
One of our major goals is to make our shows a fun and enjoyable sport for everyone involved. Our show is set up to give our riders and their horses the chance to experience shows without all the stress in professional competition.
For a small fee for the day or for individual classes, we open all classes to all ages by offering divisions for lead liners through adults. We give out 1st-6th place ribbons for each class. At the end of the day, we give grand and reserve champion ribbons to our top riders in each age division. We have one all-trophy game show which is held at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds during Dover fair days in August. In appreciation to all our season riders, we have our final “Trick or Treat” game show that is full of trickery.
Each year NCRC offers a scholarship in memory of Irene Cochran to a High School senior or a continuing adult student who has made a meaningful contribution to the animal or Agricultural world and who plans to pursue it in further education. (Source)
