Petra Szymkowicz, DVM

Dr. Petra Szymkowicz (Sim-ko-witz) joined Lisbon Veterinary Clinic in 2017. She is originally from a small rural town in Vermont where she was active in 4-H. She grew up showing Arabian horses and competed on the western riding team in college. In 2012, Dr. Szymkowicz graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a B.S. in animal science. She then obtained her doctorate of veterinary medicine from The Ohio State University. During her time at OSU Dr. Szymkowicz was a summer extern at Lisbon Veterinary Clinic and spent more time with our practice as a fourth year veterinary student. Joining the Lisbon Veterinary Clinic family was always her dream. She is currently a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

Outside of the office Dr. Szymkowicz loves to stay active. She can often be found running the trails with her black and white hound dog, Toby, or lifting weights at the gym. She has completed several half marathons, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is very important to her. She also enjoys playing basketball, hiking and horseback riding.

Dr. Szymkowicz’s primary career interests are large animal medicine and surgery. She enjoys working with horses, cattle, small ruminants and camelids. Her special interests include performance horse work, dairy cattle reproduction and camelid medicine. Dr. Szymkowicz also spends a couple days in the clinic working with small animals and especially enjoys educating clients on preventative medicine and small animal surgery. (Source)
