Rachel Butler, DVM

Rachel grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University where she earned her B.S. in Biological Sciences in 2012. She completed 3 years of post-baccalaureate education at Mississippi State University from 2013-2016. Rachel graduated in Spring 2020 with her DVM from Michigan State University.

Rachel has a passion for teaching and research. During her time at OSU and MS State, she was involved in research projects in microbiology, pathology, and reproduction. Throughout college, she was actively involved in tutoring students and put on a hands-on learning equine sciences day for her local barn.

During veterinary school, Rachel was involved in various clubs and activities. She was Vice President of Michigan State’s Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and was SAVMA Fundraising Chair. She created a scholarship for students to help off-set the costs of attending externships and helped to raise money to send students to conferences. During her summers, she participated in Michigan State’s Equine Fellows Program and was given the opportunity to work as a surgery technician at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. During her time at RREH, Rachel developed a passion for equine surgery and is hoping to complete a large animal surgical residency after the completion of her internship.

Rachel grew up competing on the hunter/jumper circuit. She owns an American Warmblood jumper horse named Bellah and a Pomeranian named Checkers. Rachel is looking forward to her year at Rood and Riddle! (source)
