Rebecca Howard Hathaway

Rebecca coaches adults of all experience levels. She specializes in non-confrontational horse training techniques based on equine body language (natural horsemanship) as well as positive reinforcement (“clicker training”) methods. She coaches pleasure riders as well as performance disciplines in dressage and jumping using biomechanics and fitness building. It doesn’t matter if the tack is English or Western, the principles are the same.

She is the Equine Specialist for the non-profit Embrace Hope- Sandy Hook Equine Assisted Therapy, which offers free horse therapy to children and individuals who have experienced trauma. She is halfway through a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a focus on animal assisted therapies and has various trainings and certifications in animal assisted personal development and mental health systems.

Rebecca often presents clinics, demos and trainings for non-profits such as the UCONN Symposium, Ray of Light Farm and Rescue, Pegasus Therapeutic Riding, The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard, bridle trails associations as well as other barns- focusing on horse language and behavior, Natural Horsemanship and Positive Reinforcement.

Rebecca has a published article in Massachusetts Horse Magazine and Connecticut Horse Magazine on managing our horses’ adrenaline levels in order to have a more calm and responsive relationship. Another article is in the works, going deep on the shift that is happening in the horse world as our training methods evolve away from savage towards collaborative systems, which are more effective, fun and safe for horse and human!
