Robert H. Kraybill, DVM

Dr. Kraybill is the sole owner of Cumberland Valley Equine Service. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in Biology from Wittenberg University in Springfield Ohio in 1981 and graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. He was awarded his graduating class’ outstanding large animal surgeon prize. During veterinary medical school Robert externed at Apex Veterinary Hospital in Apex North Carolina as well as in veterinary practices in Pensacola Florida and on Long Island, New York.

Robert worked in general mixed practice for five years upon graduation, emphasizing surgery and equine medicine before limiting his professional work to horses exclusively. He then practiced at Maryland’s Thoroughbred racetracks and training facilities for three years before joining a general equine practice in northern Maryland. In 1998 he purchased his present veterinary practice in South Central Pennsylvania.

Dr Kraybill has a strong interest and history in sports medicine. He has been an avid foxhunter as well as competing in combined training and eventing. He continues to ride for pleasure, time permitting. His other interests include family activities with his wife Tricia , and his four children Jake, Joshua , Joseph and Preston. Robert also performs with several musical groups as a trombonist, and is occasionally seen golfing or playing ice hockey.

Dr Kraybill prides himself on the currency of his medical knowledge. He makes several trips annually for continuing medical education and has embraced the concept of evidence based medical treatment. His practice philosophy is simple: He works for the horse. He refuses to over engineer vaccination programs , or over prescribe costly medications or procedures that have no well founded basis in the treatment of the condition at hand; this philosophy stems from his devotion to current evidence-based medical continuing education and training. He does reach for cutting edge therapies that have evidence-based promise: For example, he has introduced platelet rich plasma, IRAP , and stem cell therapy options into his practice for equine athletic injuries.
