Tara O’Brien, VMD

Dr. Tara O’ Brien grew up in Long Island, New York where she rode and trained horses in her father’s thoroughbred racing stable at Belmont Park. She later attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2007. She began her veterinary career practicing sports medicine at Belmont, Aqueduct and Saratoga Racetracks with Dr. Hunt and Associates. Here she had the opportunity to work with the best thoroughbred racehorses in North America. During this time her passion for lameness and diagnostic imaging led Dr. O’Brien to attend advanced training in lameness and ultrasound through ISELP (The International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology). In 2014 Dr. O’Brien decided to leave New York to enjoy life in the Pacific Northwest and focus more on sport horses. At Oakhurst Dr. O’Brien loves working with all breeds and disciplines of sport horses, as well as having the opportunity to practice advanced reproductive medicine. In her free time Dr. O’Brien enjoys hiking the mountains of the Pacific Northwest with her crazy cattle dog Bandit, and eating her way through Portland’s best restaurants. (Source)
