Valerie Higginson, DVM

Val grew up in Vankleek Hill on her family’s sheep farm. She attended the University of Guelph to complete her Bachelor of Science Degree before attending McGill University for her Master of Science Degree, focusing on dairy cattle nutrition. While completing her DVM Degree, Val attended the Cornell Summer Daily Institute program as well as completed many boving and equine external rotations across Canada and the U.S. to gain skills in reproduction, surgery and preventative medicine. When she graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College, Val was thrilled to move back to her home area and to join the team at NVS! She enjoys dairy medicine, surgery and herd health as well as having an interest in equine emergency and theriogenology work. Outside of work she can usually be found at the barn with her horse Brava or helping her husband Andrew with their beef cattle. She also enjoys kayaking with her dog Daisy and anything outdoors.
