Carolyn Wollenberger, DVM

Since I can remember, I had a love for horses and their immensity. From five years old, I owned, competed, and rode daily. There was a sort of empathy I shared with each horse. The athleticism and sheer power they possessed was breathtaking and oddly relatable. Besides riding, I also grew up playing sports and even continued my soccer career at higher levels. After long games and aching muscles, I understood a little more of why I was so intrigued by the thousand-pound animal, I felt aching pains in an increment of what they feel. I had a knowledge of how they move, the way they feel, and how they should be healed. Performance horses will continue to be a part of not only my career, but my life.

I received my bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz and went on to get my master’s at UC Santa Barbara. I took my love for animals and attended UC Davis where I got my doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1995. Post vet school, I worked at a race track where I got to learn the ins and outs of fast paced performance horse medicine. After about five years I decided to take on my own practice.

More recently I was certified in equine acupuncture at the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Since my certification in 2016, I have incorporated this in my practice and found amazing results.

I believe my passion lies within the peak performance of these large animals because I always wanted that within my own life. We all wish to be our best every day, and my dream will always be to help these animals do just that. (Source)
