Harry W. Werner, VMD

Following his lifelong passion for animal care and welfare, Dr. Harry Werner attended the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. While attending Penn, he also worked at racetracks and horse shows along the Eastern U.S. coast.

In 1979, he created Werner Equine to offer skilled veterinary care for horses in southern New England & eastern New York. Dr. Werner’s career has focused on lameness, Pre-purchase examination, diagnostic imaging, equine welfare issues, wellness care. and consulting on cases referred by veterinarians, trainers and farriers.

Serving the American Association of Equine Practitioners in numerous positions over 30 years, Dr. Werner was the 2009 President of AAEP. Dr. Werner is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association Welfare Committee. He serves on the board of the World Equine Veterinary Association and is AVMA Liaison to the Unwanted Horse Coalition. He participates in Project Samana, a working equid (horses, donkeys, mules) welfare project in the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Werner speaks internationally and has authored many articles on Lameness, Pre-purchase Examination, Equine Welfare, Farrier-Veterinarian Relationships, Veterinary Ethics and Lyme disease. Dr. Werner works as a consultant for difficult equine medical cases and for pre-purchase examinations.
