[Advantages of ride therapy in different forms of infantile cerebral palsy (therapeutic riding)].
Abstract: One hundred children with cerebral palsy, aged 3-14 years, were divided into two equal groups, the first one including 50 children assigned to ride therapy and the second one--to Bobath therapeutic gymnastics. All the patients underwent a functional examination, which was rated using score system worked out by the authors, thus enabling a quantitative evaluation of treatment efficacy. In all the cases, physical rehabilitation resulted in a positive but not the same effect, with ride therapy being significantly (p < 0.001) more beneficial treatment compared to therapeutic gymnastics. Ride therapy provides an acquisition of new movement skills, spastics and hyperkinesis reduction and an extreme mobilization of compensatory abilities of developing children brain.

This research investigates the benefits of ride therapy compared to Bobath therapeutic gymnastics on children aged 3-14 years with cerebral palsy. The results point towards ride therapy as the significantly more beneficial treatment.
Objective of the Research
The research aimed to compare the effectiveness of ride therapy and Bobath therapeutic gymnastics as treatments for children with cerebral palsy. Researchers worked with a sample of one hundred children within the age group of 3-14 years to investigate which therapy has a more positive impact on physical rehabilitation.
Methodology of the Research
- The research participants were divided into two groups of 50 children each. The first group was exposed to ride therapy, while the second group underwent Bobath therapeutic gymnastics.
- Pre and post-treatment, all the children underwent a functional examination. The researchers assessed the effectiveness of both treatments using a score system that they had developed. This allowed for a quantitative evaluation of treatment effectiveness.
Findings of the Research
- Ride therapy and Bobath therapeutic gymnastics both had a positive effect on all the children involved in the study.
- However, the effect was not uniform between the two therapies. The children who underwent ride therapy showed significant improvement (p < 0.001) compared to the ones who underwent Bobath therapeutic gymnastics.
- The specific benefits of ride therapy included acquisition of new movement skills, reduction of spasticity and hyperkinesis (excessive movement), and a drastic mobilization of the compensatory abilities of the developing brain in children.
Implications of the Research Findings
- The study concludes that ride therapy, based on these findings, can be considered a more effective treatment method for children with cerebral palsy within the specific age range.
- This underscores the need for the medical and therapeutic community to consider the integration of ride therapy in <a href="/equine-rehabilitation-guide/" title="Equine Rehabilitation Programs: What to Expect When Your Horse is Recovering – [Guide]”>rehabilitation programs aimed at improving the physical condition of children with cerebral palsy.
