[Experimental and clinicolaboratory evaluation of complex therapy efficacy in arboviral infections].

Abstract: Search for drugs efficient in prophylaxis and treatment of dangerous infections (especially arboviral ones) is rather actual, since no specific therapy is available. Many-year investigations of interferon inductors showed that they had immunomodulating, antiviral and antiinflammatory effects and were low toxic. The present study demonstrated that the protective effect was the following: Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE)--cycloferon > amixin = ridostin, Rift Valley fever (RVF)--cycloferon > amixin > ridostin, predator pox (PP)--cycloferon > amixin = ridostin, that was obvious that cycloferon was the most active agent in the treatment of VEE, RVF and PP, thus making it possible to acknowledge its priority in prophylaxis and therapy of dangerous viral infections (DVI). Ribavirin in combination with cycloferon solution or cycloferon tablets provided shorter periods of the fever, minimized the intoxication syndrome, promoted earlier resolution of hemorrhagic eruption and lowered the frequency of complications, which was in favour of the disease prognosis.

The researchers conducted experiments to assess the effectiveness of complex therapy for arboviral infections, focusing on drugs including cycloferon, amixin, and ridostin. They found cycloferon to be the most effective, notably when combined with ribavirin, reducing fever duration, intoxication symptoms, hemorrhagic eruption, and complications.

Objective and Significance of the Study

  • This study aimed to identify effective drugs for the prophylaxis and treatment of dangerous infections, specifically arboviral infections, due to their prevalence and lack of specific therapy to combat them.
  • The identification of such effective drug treatments could potentially save numerous lives and improve the health and wellbeing of individuals affected by these diseases.

Research Methodology

  • The researchers conducted several years of investigations to study the effects of interferon inductors, focusing on their immunomodulating, antiviral, and antiinflammatory effects.
  • Their efficacy was evaluated against diseases like Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE), Rift Valley fever (RVF), and predator pox (PP).
  • Key drugs tested included cycloferon, amixin, and ridostin.

Key Findings

  • The studies showed that cycloferon exhibited a greater protective effect than amixin or ridostin against VEE, RVF, and PP.
  • These findings suggested that cycloferon has the potential to be highly effective in the prophylaxis and treatment of arboviral infections.
  • When combined with ribavirin, cycloferon was observed to provide additional health benefits. These included shorter fever durations, diminished intoxication symptoms, quicker eradication of hemorrhagic eruption, and reduced frequencies of complications.
  • These results that favor the disease prognosis suggest that a combined treatment of cycloferon and ribavirin could be potentially powerful in dueling dangerous viral infections (DVIs).

Conclusion and Implication

  • The study concluded that cycloferon, especially when used in combination with ribavirin, has the potential to be a priority in the prophylaxis and treatment of dangerous viral infections.
  • This discovery could help reduce the severity of symptoms and complications associated with viruses causing DVIs, significantly improving patients’ prognosis and overall survival rates.
