Abstract: Translation: The 2nd edition of this specialized book by Renate Ettl includes basic knowledge about the use of kinesiological tapes, ranging from their foundations to specific applications in horses. The reader is vividly introduced to the material and adhesive properties of the tapes, the various application techniques, and their correct application. The book is mainly aimed at manual therapists and veterinarians, but interested horse owners can also gain insight into the "world of colorful strips" with this work. Part 1 of the book provides foundational knowledge necessary for the correct application of kinesiotaping. In addition to information on the history and the theory behind the use of the tapes, further knowledge on color theory as well as the anatomy and physiology of the horse is conveyed, assuming a profound knowledge of anatomy. Indications and contraindications for kinesiotaping are clearly formulated. The introduction to the basic tape layouts is made using numerous photos and schematic representations. In Part 2 of the book, the author first addresses the examinations that should be conducted before using a kinesio tape for diagnosis. There are also tips on using the tape under "practical conditions" such as pasture or while riding. The third and most extensive part of the book shows how diverse the actual applications of kinesiotaping are, presenting numerous clinical applications. For example, kinesiological tapes can be used for muscle dysfunctions or injuries, diseases of tendons, ligaments, and joints, as well as to correct postural errors. They can also be beneficial for disorders of lymphatic drainage or organic diseases by specifically supporting the lymphatic pathways. For each specific application, the indication and objectives of the tape application are discussed. This is followed by a detailed step-by-step guide on how to apply the tape to the horse, usually using combinations of the basic tape layouts explained in Part 1. Clear tables display the layout form, recommended color of the tape, tape course, technique, and effect of the tape application. The book is clearly structured and guides the reader in an easily understandable manner in the use of kinesiological tapes. It is suitable both for those who are just starting to work with kinesiotapes and for users who already have experience in the field of kinesiotaping and are looking for instructions for use in specific diseases.
