Aimee Leigh Monek

Dr. Aimee Leigh Monek is the newest associate veterinarian of the Southeast Equine Veterinary Services team. She is committed to being an advocate for the horse and providing refined, comprehensive health care to her patients. Her professional interests include equine sports medicine, diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology, and geriatric wellness.

Dr. Monek is originally from “Cowboy Town” Davie, Florida, home of the Southeastern Circuit Finals Pro Rodeo. Her dedication to a career in veterinary medicine stems from a lifetime of personal involvement within the performance horse industry, from showing hunter/jumper at an early age to competing in both the Florida Junior Wrangler Division and Florida High School Rodeo Association circuits in barrel racing, pole bending, and breakaway roping. Her love for the profession solidified in 2015 after completing a summer internship at the Texas A&M Equine Embryo Laboratory, where she assisted with the world’s most cutting edge reproductive procedures, including transvaginal follicle aspiration, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and mesenchymal stem cell research.

Dr. Monek graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a degree in Pre-professional Biology, then continued on to Auburn University to earn her doctorate in veterinary medicine. During veterinary school, she served as the vice president of both the Auburn Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Production Animal Medicine Club. Academic scholarships allowed her to travel and seek mentorship from large animal clinicians across the country, some locations including Lexington KY, Clovis NM, Tryon NC, Nampa ID, Decatur TX, Franklin TN, and Wellington FL.

Dr. Monek is currently an active member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the National Barrel Horse Association, and the American Quarter Horse Association. Her personal interests include horseback riding, music, and design. (source)
