Alec J. Davern, DVM, DACVS-LA

Originally from northern Minnesota, Dr. Davern spent many years in the southeast including attending Clemson University (BS) and the University of Georgia (DVM). He also completed an internship at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala in Florida before heading to the Midwest for a residency in large animal surgery at Purdue University.

Following residency completion, he had the unique opportunity to join a new satellite hospital owned by Purdue University where he focused on equine surgery, lameness and diagnostic imaging prior to returning to the southeast to join Tryon Equine Hospital. He has had the pleasure of getting to work on horses of many disciplines, from trail riding horses to race horses of all breeds and english and western performance horses.

Having grown up showing quarter horses, he enjoys working with the variety of disciplines. His professional interests are minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy/tenoscopy) and airway surgery in addition to performance horse management. Outside of work Dr. Davern enjoys spending time with his wife and son fly fishing, hiking and woodworking. (Source)
