Alicia was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. Knowing she wanted to be a veterinarian from a young age, she attended the University of Alberta for Animal Science after graduating high school. In 2013, Alicia was accepted to th e University of Edinburgh in Scotland to study veterinary medicine; graduating from the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery program with Honours in June 2018. As part of her Final Year, Alicia did extra rotations in small animal general practice, farm animal practice, and first opinion equine practice. Though her parents wanted her to work in the city, Alicia grew up listening to stories of their lives spent on the farm, which was far more appealing! Eager to begin working as a mixed practice veterinarian, Alicia returned home to Alberta. Alicia spent a year working in Sedgewick, Alberta before moving to Stettler, where she feels very blessed to be living and working in the community. Though she loves all aspects of veterinary medicine, Alicia especially enjoys small ruminant, equine, and bovine medicine. Alicia was recently married (you may have come to know her as “Dr. Laniak” previously) in June 2020, and together with her husband-along with their working dog, ranch horses, and cows-they have put down roots on a farm in the area. When she isn’t busy being a veterinarian, Alicia enjoys spending time with loved ones, camping, horseback riding, and trying out new baking recipes. (Source)
