Dr. Amanda Marsh, DVM, CVA is the owner and operator of Prairie Summit Veterinary Services, LLC. Being a Cody native, Dr. Amanda has always had firm roots in the community, growing up on a few ranches on both the Southfork and Northfork. These early ranch beginnings fostered Amanda’s animal knowledge and pushed her to work towards a career in Veterinary Medicine.
After graduating from Cody High School, Dr. Marsh did her first year of undergraduate training at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. During her time in Virginia, Dr. Marsh spend a great deal of time working in Dressage and Hunter/Jumper training barns as both an exercise rider and groom, increasing her knowledge of higher level performance horses. In 2004, Dr. Marsh moved to the front range of Colorado where she continued to live for the next 7 years. She attended Colorado State University, during which time she earned a B.S. in Equine Science with a Veterinary Concentration. Much of her time as an undergraduate was spent on the CSU Collegiate Equestrian Team, volunteering at the CSU Equine Reproduction Lab, and training/showing horses at a local training facility.
Upon graduating in 2007, Dr. Marsh was accepted to the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and pursued her training in veterinary medicine, with specifically a focus in large animal medicine and reproduction. Desiring to pursue a career focused on Equine practice, Dr. Marsh spent the majority of her time, especially in her last year of training, interning at renowned equine practices including Littleton Equine Medical Center, Tennessee Equine Hospital, Idaho Equine Hospital, CSU Equine Critical Care Service and the Sports Medicine Practice at the NRHA Derby in Oklahoma City. Additionally, because her most passionate interest surround mares and foals, she spent a large amount of time volunteering and working at the Equine Reproduction Lab, learning advanced reproductive techniques including embryo transfer and stallion collection and processing. Her greatest passion while at CSU; however, was being the Foal Care Unit Coordinator, which focused on coordinating over 50 volunteers to help with critical neonates in the Large Animal Unit. While much of her training was equine medicine in nature, she was also able to spend time on Dr. Erik Egger’s Small Animal Orthopedic Field Service and the Larimer County Humane Society Field Service.
Graduating with Honors in 2011, Dr. Marsh accepted a position as an associate Veterinarian at Cody Veterinary Hospital in Cody. During her time there, she focused on the many responsibilities as a mixed animal Veterinarian but also began to focus her interests in equine performance medicine, equine reproduction, and small animal internal medicine. In 2013, Dr. Marsh met another mentor that would also shape many aspects of her future practice, Dr. Linda Lauper from California. While Dr. Marsh had some interest in Acupuncture during and following veterinary school, Dr. Lauper not only helped her develop her knowledge of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine but also encouraged her to pursue further training and certification.
In November 2015, Dr. Marsh elected to leave Cody Veterinary Hospital and pursue different interests with the ultimate goal of founding her own veterinary practice. During the interim, thanks to her very supportive friend Dr. Ken Brown, Dr. Marsh spent the next year as an emergency small animal veterinarian at the Animal Clinic of Billings (ACOB), a referral medicine and surgery center in Billings, MT. It was during her time at ACOB that, while she loved the challenges of emergency medicine, she greatly missed her time as an equine practitioner. In May of 2016, the roots of Prairie Summit Veterinary Services were developed, and in November 2016, Prairie Summit Veterinary Services opened to the public.
While practicing medicine is very important to Dr. Marsh, her most cherished part of her life is her family. Her husband Trapper is an active part of Prairie Summit and both of her daughters, Peyton and Mackenzie, can be found frequently helping their mom treat patients and cuddling the clinic cats after school. In her free time, Dr. Marsh loves to be in the mountains hiking and hunting with her husband, running a few races, and watching her daughters grow up into amazing young women. (Source)
