Hello, my name is Dr. Brandon Herron. I grew up on a small cattle and sheep ranch in Roy, NM. After graduation from high school in 2003, I attended college at New Mexico State University. Following four years of undergraduate education, I received my Bachelors degree in Animal Science and was honored as an Animal and Range Science distinguished graduating senior in the spring of 2007. Following graduation, I furthered my education by attending Colorado State University and becoming a member of the Professional Veterinary Medicine class of 2011.
I became interested in Veterinary Medicine through my career in 4-H and FFA. I showed market sheep at the county and state level for 12 years and also enjoyed raising and showing pigs, cattle and the occasional horse and goat. While at Las Cruces for college, I stayed buy in the College of agriculture working with the on-campus sheep under the helpful guidance of Dr. Tim Ross. Through the years of working for him, I transitioned from learning to teaching as I became an assistant coach of the wool judging team and helped teach underclassmen about sheep production.
In vet school I became a member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. We attended monthly meetings and wet labs to help us further our knowledge in veterinary medicine. In my second year of school I became a student representative for a well known pharmaceutical company where I enhanced my knowledge about our veterinary pharmaceuticals and our patient’s immune systems.
Attending Veterinary school was a big accomplishment in my life. I am happy to be back working in New Mexico following my education. In my search for a job, I was very impressed with the staff, facilities and patient care at Village Veterinary Hospital. I look forward to serving this area as a new associate veterinarian working with Dr. McCallister at Village Veterinary Hospital. (Source)
