Claire Summers, DVM

Dr. Summers grew up in Jackson Co., WV and completed her undergraduate
degree in Animal & Vet Science at West Virginia University.

Following graduation from WVU, she worked as an operating room technician and ICU nurse at Virginia Tech’s Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center, in Leesburg, VA.

Dr. Summers attended vet school at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia,
where she served as the Western Australian Student Representative for Equine Veterinarians of Australia. During her time in this role, she was also active in pursuing research involving equine assisted reproductive technology, and was honored to receive several awards including the Murdoch University Summer Research Scholarship, the Bain Fallon Young Member Scholarship, and the EVA Young Members Group Scientific Poster Award, for the research she presented at the Equine Veterinarians Australia Bain Fallon Memorial Conference.

Following vet school, Dr. Summers completed an equine medicine and surgery internship in Sheridan, WY, and then went on to work in equine practice in Colorado and Montana, until country roads called her home.

In addition to her passion for equine veterinary medicine, she enjoys traveling and has worked with the Surin Project helping elephants in Thailand, as well as Vet Ventures and Amazon Cares, providing veterinary care to dogs and cats in Peru.

She also takes great pride in giving back to the community by speaking to 4-H and Pony Clubs, participating in career fairs and STEM events, and hosting client education seminars. (Source)
