Dr. Crystal Chapple is a lifelong horsewoman, growing up on a small farm in Newton County, near Morocco, IN, where she was active in 4H for 10 years. She attended Purdue University and received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 1982 and a DVM from Purdue Veterinary School in 1989. From 1982 until June, 1990, Dr. Chapple worked for Dr. Charles Heinze at Equine Veterinary Clinic in West Lafayette, IN. Upon the retirement of Dr. Heinze, on June 1, 1990, Dr. Chapple started Equine Veterinary Service, an ambulatory equine practice. Dr. Chapple has been certified as an animal chiropractor since 1997 and continues to have a special interest in chiropractics. She continues practicing as an ambulatory equine veterinarian today with a special interest in reproduction, neonatal care, wound management, internal medicine and equine wellness. Dr. Chapple has been actively involved in the Indiana Thoroughbred industry and has been breeding Thoroughbreds since 1993. She served on the board for the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders for several years and was active on numerous committees. She and her husband, Mike Phelps, continue to breed Thoroughbreds at their farm near Hillsboro, IN. Dr. Chapple is an advocate for the horse and served on the Indiana Board of Animal Health’s Equine Advisory Council, writing the current standards of care for horses in Indiana. She is a member of ITOBA, IVMA, IAEP and AAEP. Dr. Chapple enjoys her time on the farm with broodmares & babies, horse racing, Time spent with family and motorcycle travel with her husband, Mike.
