Elizabeth Colarusso, DVM

Although Dr. Colarusso grew up on her family’s fourth generation dairy farm in Goshen, New York, her passion has always been horses. She began riding as a young girl and had many fun years at pony club rallies. She enjoyed eventing and dressage as she worked her way up to an HA rating. In college, she developed a strong interest in biology and medicine. After shadowing an equine ambulatory vet one summer, she knew she had found her calling.

At Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Colarusso focused in equine surgery and medicine. In addition, she had a strong interest in equine reproduction which brought her to Colorado State to study advanced reproductive techniques. After graduating from Cornell in 2009, she began an equine internship at Vermont Large Animal Clinic. While there, Betsy grew her skills for lameness, field surgeries and emergency medicine.

After her internship she moved back to New York and became an established equine ambulatory veterinarian. She prides herself in strong client communication skills and works hard to establish a trusting, friendly bond between everyone involved in caring for horses.

Betsy’s diverse case load has included large farm reproductive work, advanced reproductive technologies and many successful problem mare pregnancies, as well as internal medicine workups, sport horse lameness, dental procedures and geriatric medicine.

Betsy joined the Oakencroft team in January 2017. She moved to the area with her young daughter Abigail, supportive husband, Chad and her spotted German Shepherd, Griffin. Betsy spends her free time running after Abigail, hiking and skiing. (Source)
