About Emilie Lanctot Setlakwe, DVM

Dr. Emilie Setlakwe joined the Tryon Equine team in August 2015, following completion of a 3 year internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. Prior to that, she performed a large animal internship in medicine and surgery at the University of Guelph and obtained a Masters degree form the University of Montreal in respiratory disease in horses. Dr. Setlakwe’s areas of interest include equine respiratory diseases, neurology, evaluation of poor performance, gastroenterology, neonatology and critical care. She has a passion for veterinary humanitarian work and has traveled to Nicaragua where she provided veterinary care to working equids. Dr. Setlakwe also enjoys working on a variety of species, some of which include pet small ruminants (sheep and goats), camelids, and pigs. In her spare time, Dr. Setlakwe enjoys riding her horses and competing in three day events and dressage. She also enjoy spending time with her husband, Tim and her son, Simon. She also enjoys circus arts, particularly flying trapeze. (Source)

Dr. Setlakwe is one of the smartest veterinarians I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. She has cared for more than 150 equines at the Sanctuary at Red Bell Run for the past 6 years. An internist, she is thorough, thinks outside of the box, and is a brilliant diagnostician. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Emilie Setlakwe is the best doctor you could ask for. Not only is she brilliant and compassionate, but she also has an incredible warmth that puts everyone at ease. We attended school together, and from the very beginning, it was clear that she was one of the brightest minds among us. She stood out not just for her intelligence but also for her dedication and deep passion for everything she pursued. Her love for horses is especially remarkable, and it reflects her nurturing nature and ability to connect deeply with the world around her.
