Great Strides of Shelbyville

Our mission in Great Strides is to provide physical therapy exercises and recreation for riders with physical and or mental disabilities through horseback riding and related activities. Research has shown that horseback riding is one of the most beneficial of all forms of therapy for the physically, mentally, or emotionally challenged. When riding a horse the disabled rider experiences a feeling of balance, suppleness, ease, confidence and joy. The movement of the horse stimulates muscles to build strength and the relationship with the horse opens up many opportunities for communication and socialization. (Source)
