About Hailey M. DeVries, DVM

Dr. Hailey DeVries – is an equine veterinarian who grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago where she spent much of her time competing in three-day eventing. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Illinois, then attended Iowa State University where she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Dr. Hailey then completed an equine surgery and medicine internship at Conley & Koontz Equine Clinic in Columbia City, IN. She practiced at the same clinic for several years as an ambulatory practitioner, as well as assistant surgeon for complex surgical cases. While she enjoys all aspects of equine medicine, she has special interests in sports medicine and lameness, surgery, reproduction, and wound healing. In her spare time, Dr. Hailey continues to compete in three-day events and now attends team roping events and rodeos that her husband, Chris, participates in as well. They currently live with their four horses named Butterscotch, Diesel, Holiday, and Bertha, and four dogs named Aussie Roo, Rodeo, Maybelle, and Dixie June on a hobby farm where they also raise Angus cattle, chickens, and pigs. I cannot recommend Dr. Haley highly enough.

I used her for a gastroscope and dental float, and what immediately stood out was how knowledgeable she is, especially with ulcer horses and more complicated gastric cases. She truly understands the mechanism of what is happening, and just as importantly, she understands that every horse is an individual. That is what sets her apart.

With this particular horse, I had already worked with several other vets and kept running into the same problem: standard treatment plans that did not fit the actual horse. Dr. Haley was completely different. She was thoughtful, thorough, open-minded, and willing to really go through both treatment and management in a way that suited my horse as an individual.

What was especially important to me was that she understood the possibility of delayed gastric emptying right away and had experience thinking through that kind of gastric pattern. That was a huge relief. With other vets, it often felt like we were having a one-way conversation because they did not really understand the mechanism I was describing, so we never got anywhere. Dr. Haley immediately understood what I was saying, could discuss it fluidly, and knew how to put the pieces together. That level of understanding is rare.

A huge benefit was that she brought the gastroscope to us. For this horse, being able to scope her at home significantly reduced stress and made the entire process much easier.

One of the biggest things Dr. Haley gave me was peace of mind. After feeling drained and overwhelmed trying to manage a complicated ulcer case without the right support, it is a huge relief to know I now have someone this knowledgeable just a phone call away. She does not just chase individual symptoms; she understands how to look at the whole horse, recognize the larger pattern, and build a plan that actually makes sense.

Her knowledge, support, and professionalism were exceptional, and the pricing was also very fair for the level of care and expertise provided.

If you have a horse with ulcers or a more complicated gastric case, especially one that is not responding well to a standard protocol, Dr. Haley is absolutely worth calling.
