About Janelle Suzanne Renschler, DVM, PhD, DACVP, cVMA, VBMC

Dr. Janelle Renschler grew up in northern Indiana as a horse lover from a young age. She was introduced to horses at her relatives’ quarter horse ranch in Idaho. She majored in animal science at Purdue University for undergraduate studies, participating in the collegiate equestrian team and polo club and taking private dressage lessons. She went on to study veterinary medicine at Purdue, graduating in 2001. After some time in small animal practice, she returned to academia to pursue research and advanced training in pathology.

Dr. Renschler spent many years working in systemic fungal diagnostics as the veterinary director at MiraVista Diagnostics, collaborating with academic veterinarians on studies, advising practicing vets on diagnosis and treatment of fungal infections, and writing/publishing. She also worked as a scientific writer at Indiana University School of Medicine.

So, what brought a pathologist back to equine practice?

Simply put, it was destiny and a mare named Sapphire.

Sapphire has been Dr. Renschler’s heart horse and greatest teacher. In the process of trying to “fix” her issues, she kept gaining knowledge and realized that there was a better way to approach horse health than what was solely taught in vet school. This turned into a passion and a calling to help other horses and their owners!

Dr. Renschler lives on a 24-acre farm with her husband, 4 horses, and various other animals (geese, chickens, cats, and dog). She is a runner, cyclist, and outdoor enthusiast with a passion for restoring native plants and regenerating the soil. She is training her new Morgan filly and hopes to compete in working equitation.
