Dr. Tyma grew up in New Hope, Pennsylvania and attended Amherst College for her undergraduate education, receiving a degree in chemistry. She moved onto Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2014 with Phi Zeta honors, and completed a one-year rotating internship at Rhinebeck Equine. Thereafter she went on to complete a three-year surgical residency at the University of Georgia and spent an additional year at UGA as a clinical instructor in large animal surgery and emergency and critical care. In 2019 she became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (large animal). Dr. Tyma is also certified in veterinary acupuncture. Dr. Tyma’s clinical interests include the acute abdomen and emergency surgery and medicine, wound management, minimally invasive surgery, and lameness and rehabilitation. Her research has focused on the gastrointestinal microbiome, post-operative colic complications, and musculoskeletal regenerative therapies. Outside of work, Dr. Tyma enjoys staying active with long-distance running and CrossFit, hiking, skiing, traveling, and spending time with her handsome and mischievous cats, Henry and Duncan.
