Jordan Elizabeth Koivu, BSc, DVM, cVMA

Dr. Jordan Koivu grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (Canada) and developed a strong passion for horses at a very young age. She acquired a Bachelor of Science at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York, and played an active role in the university’s equestrian program, while competing in hunter/ jumper competitions throughout the East Coast and Florida. She graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2015 then carried on to perform an internship at New England Equine Medical & Surgical Center in Dover, New Hampshire. She then moved to Calgary, Alberta where she worked for TD Equine for 2.5 years, gaining invaluable experience in lameness and sports medicine, while working at elite venues including, Spruce Meadows and Rocky Mountain Show Jumping. Additionally, she completed a Sports Medicine Internship affiliated with the University of Calgary Veterinary School from June 2017 to June 2018, to further strengthen her knowledge and skills in that area.

Dr. Koivu has a special interest in lameness and sports medicine, gastroenterology, and alternative therapies. She is certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture and Animal Chiropractic, and is also an FEI treating veterinarian. Dr. Koivu is thrilled to be back working in her home province and to be able to bring gold standard medicine to everyone in the area. In her spare time she enjoys riding her horse, Oliver, and hiking with her dog, Fernie. Aside from animal-related activities, Dr. Koivu most enjoys travelling and spending time with friends and family. (Source)
