Karen Hooks, DVM

Dr. Karen Hooks, a licensed veterinarian, lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. After practicing emergency medicine and general verterinary practice for 13 years, her practice is now focused on acupuncture and chiropractic for all species of animals. She has bred and owned numerous champion and performance titled vizslas under the “Caveat” kennel name including two national specialty winners (1992, 1998). Her multiple BIS, BISS Ch. Russet Leather Caveat Calla ROM is proud to be the official vizsla breed representative in the official book of breed standards, The American Kennel Club’s Complete Dog Book, and also appears as the breed representative in The International Encyclopedia of Dogs by renowned AKC judge Anne Rodgers Clark. Dr. Hooks credits a clear understanding of biomechanics, movement, and breed type to her success in the dog show world.

Dr. Hooks is also an amateur dressage rider. Her equine patients come from all disciplines including barrel racers, hunters, jumpers, eventers, dressage, reining, roping, cutting, racing, gaited, halter and pleasure horses. She shares her life with her five dogs; Calla, Shocker, Flynn, Keeper, and Sailor; two cats; Fat Baby and Spin; horse Scottie; goat Miss Daisy; and deer Rosie.

Dr. Hooks is certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) to practice Acupuncture and by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) to practice Animal Chiropractic. She is presently in the process of completing her training in Animal Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. She is a charter member of the American Association of Veterinary Acupuncturists (AAVA) and a lifetime member of the AVCA. Dr. Hooks is also a member in good standing of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Holistic Veterinary Association (AHVMA), the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS), the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association (ARKVMA), the Pulaski County Veterinary Medical Association, IVAS, as well as numerous local and national animal related organizations.
