In order to fulfill her personal commitment to sharing her knowledge with other veterinarians around the world, Dr. Blumenshine has authored a textbook chapter on soft-tissue hock lameness, published other peer-reviewed articles, and has hosted numerous educational seminars for local veterinarians, as well as taught ultrasound at the veterinary school at the University of California at Davis. For many years she flew between Santa Barbara and UC Davis to both serve her clients here and at the vet school. More currently she has completed this commitment by lecturing on lameness diagnosis using ultrasound at the AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners) and other international conferences and universities in Chile, Mexico, Thailand, Japan and China. Also Dr. Blumenshine uniquely holds titles in the human field of ultrasonography of RDMS & RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer).
Dr. Blumenshine is one of an elite group of veterinarians in the United States to be FEI (Fédération Equestre International) Official Veterinarians for international horse shows (such as the Olympics or World Games). She has served in the last two Olympic Games held in the USA (doing examinations in the ‘vet box’ for 3-day eventing, ultrasounds at the Olympic Veterinary Hospital, and as a treating vet). She continues to serve as the FEI (Fédération Equestre International) Veterinary Delegate for other international equine events.
Other regular international activities include escorting competition horses on international flights, including the 2012 Triple Crown hopeful, I’ll Have Another, to his retirement home at a stud farm in Hokkaido, Japan.
In spite of this kind of schedule, Dr. Blumenshine still finds time to help animals in need: such as working to save the wild horses on Santa Cruz island and helping to capture or rehabilitate wildlife, and lending a hand at the Santa Barbara Zoo. After the 2011 tsunami in Japan, Dr. Blumenshine made several trips with veterinary supplies for injured animals and to the home for orphaned horses near the Fucushima Diichi Nuclear Reactor site.
Santa Barbara Equine is humbly pleased to offer this background and expertise, together with portable fiberoptic endoscopy, and state-of-the-art digital ultrasonography with color Doppler and digital radiography (x-rays) to you in a caring, personalized way, stall side, locally in Santa Barbara.
