Kate earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC and competed her event horses while in college. After college, Kate worked as a working student for Apple Knoll Farm. Kate worked with some great horsewomen who taught her how to manage and maintain soundness in upper level event horses.
Kate than became interested in lameness and veterinary medicine during her working student job and decided to attend veterinary school. Kate graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine and then completed a one year equine internship at Southern Equine Services in Aiken, South Carolina.
Kate than stayed on at Southern Equine Service for one year as an associate before moving back to the Raleigh, North Carolina area to work at 3H Vet in New Hill, North Carolina. While at 3H Vet, Kate changed her focus from lameness/sports medicine to internal medicine. Kate decided to return to academia and pursue an equine internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
During her residency Kate also achieved a Master of Science in Veterinary Medical Science in Veterinary Clinical Medicine. After completion of her residency, Kate joined Ocean State Equine Associates in North Scituate, Rhode Island as an associate veterinarian specializing in equine internal medicine as well as doing general wellness and emergency work.
Kate elected to open her own ambulatory equine internal medicine specialty practice in May 2021 to be able to focus more on equine internal medicine cases. (Source)
