Katie Hayes, DVM

Dr. Hayes graduated from Texas A&M and has been practicing equine medicine for 40 years. She worked for Sherwood Animal Clinic in Beaumont, TX and for Dr. Dick Shepherd as a resident vet on his TB breeding farm in Aubrey, TX before starting her own equine practice in Denison in 1985, and Hayes Equine Oklahoma in 2007.

An active member of Equine Veterinary Associations, Dr. Hayes has served on committees and boards of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Equine Veterinary Association, and past president of the North Texas Equine Practitioners Association. Dr. Hayes has also served as a board member of the handicap riding association, Hanna’s Horseshoes of Hope, and for Divine Equine Therapeutic Riding Center.

Dr. Hayes believes in giving back to the local horse community. She donates her time, money and services to local horse organizations, shows, rodeos, and horse rescue groups. She also actively participates in equine presentations for the local Extension Services, 4H, and Horse Clubs. Always encouraging and mentoring future horse vets, Dr. Hayes offers high school and college students with pre-vet interest an opportunity to shadow and veterinary students to do externships at her practice. Her interests are Repro, Foals, Dentistry, and Racehorses.

In her spare time, Dr. Hayes rides Dressage, breeds Thoroughbred racehorses, and travels. (Source)
