Dr. Lisa Costa was raised in the city of Kitchener, Ontario, where she found herself gravitating to the countryside while growing up. After enjoying hunter-jumper riding lessons as a child she eventually adopted an off-track standardbred and re-trained him to become a riding horse. Instead of just sticking to the hunters, Lisa and her horse trained and competed in a number of disciplines such as barrel racing, dressage, and trails/pack trips which exposed her to the diverse world of horse sport. Lisa completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Guelph and then continued onto her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College. In the summers of vet school, she worked with Moore as a summer student and returned as an extern student the following year. Lisa graduated from OVC in 2020 and started working as a mobile equine veterinarian in central Ontario. After a year of exciting practice, she decided that she wanted to further improve her knowledge, abilities, and skills as an equine veterinarian. This led her back to Moore to now complete an internship. Lisa’s interests in equine medicine include emergency medicine, surgery, neonatal medicine, and preventative medicine and management. While not working with horses, Lisa often finds herself canoeing, camping, and going on long walks with her rescue dog Stu. She looks forward to taking advantage of the Alberta landscape once again and being reunited with the community at Moore! (Source)
