Margaux Wheeler Buchanan, DVM

Dr. Margaux Buchanan is a native New Englander. Margaux Buchanan has been involved with horses for the majority of her life. During college, she spent many years shadowing equine veterinarians. During her internship in Vero Beach, Dr. Buchanan rode a polo pony named Tequila – and a passion for the sport of polo was born that follows her to this day.

She received her Bachelor of Arts from Smith College in 2007. Dr. Buchanan received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She completed a year-long internship at East Coast Equine and Animal Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL. From there, Dr. Buchanan spent 3 years in the central valley of California working on a variety of ranch and western performance horses. Dr. Buchanan then returned to New England, spending 5 years in the cape cod area of Massachusetts treating a variety of pleasure and sport horse disciplines. This breadth of experience has leant her a deep appreciation for the geriatric horse as well as a broad variety of performance horses.

Dr. Buchanan joined Sarasota Equine Associates in 2020. She has a special interest in geriatric preventative medicine & wellness care, dentistry, and sport horse practice.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Buchanan enjoys traveling, bourbon with a good meal, and a great polo match. (Source)
