Dr. Reid Hanson is an equine faculty member at Auburn University’s JT Vaughn Large Animal Teaching Hospital, where he serves as professor with tenure. He specializes in equine surgery. His primary focus is arthroscopic surgery and its use in musculoskeletal repair of the equine athlete.

Dr. Hanson received her DVM from the University of Georgia in 1983. He completed an internship in large animal medicine and surgery at Cornell University in 1984, and an equine surgery residency at the University of Florida in 1987.

Dr. Hanson served as a large animal clinical instructor in equine surgery at the University of Florida in 1987 prior to becoming an assistant professor in large animal surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine from 1987-1990.

He gained invaluable experience as an equine surgeon and practitioner in Charlottesville, Virginia for two years working on sport and race horses. He joined the surgical faculty at Auburn University in 1992, and is currently a Professor of Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Hanson achieved board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1990 and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2003. He is the author of more than 500 scientific articles, abstracts, presentations, and book chapters related to equine surgery, lameness, and critical care. He has spoken internationally in England, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, and Mexico in topics related to equine surgery, critical care, and lameness.

He performs clinical service to clients, research, and didactic teaching to first- through fourth-year veterinary students in the Department of Clinical Sciences. In his free time he enjoys swimming and training. (Source)
