Raquel Providell, AF-I

My name is Raquel Providell and I began an apprenticeship with Roberto Verbera in January of 2018. I met Roberto through a research project as an undergrad at UC Davis. I completed three years as an apprentice. In my second year as an apprentice, I began trimming and shoeing on my own part-time while going to school.

​In June of 2020 I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with an emphasis in Equine Exercise Physiology. Upon graduating I attended Pacific Coast Horse Shoeing School.

​My philosophy as a shoer is to try and improve the balance of the horse’s feet. Even healthy feet can often become more optimally balanced. To improve my ability to provide the best service to my clients I work to improve my knowledge continually. I attend many clinics which deepens my knowledge of farriery science and improves my practical skills.

​While at UC Davis I worked for the JD Wheat Orthopedic Laboratory participating in research studies conducted by Vanessa Dahl B.S M.S PhD. I was involved in projects that study the relationship between underrun heel conformation and lameness. (Source)
