Sarah Raabis grew up in central Massachusetts and completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. While in college, she worked as a livestock intern for Heifer International at Overlook Farm in Rutland, MA and became fascinated with sustainable agriculture and food security. While pursuing her DVM at Tufts University, she completed an International Veterinary Certificate by participating in a tick-borne disease research project in cattle within Limpopo National Park, Mozambique. She continued her clinical training with a food animal internship at Colorado State University followed by a large animal internal medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and became interested in calf health and infectious disease. Under the guidance of Dr. Theresa Ollivett, she completed a PhD that focused on evaluating how the respiratory microbiota affects Bovine Respiratory Disease risk in calves. She joined Dr. Johanna Elfenbein’s lab as a Post-doctoral associate in the summer of 2020. Sarah’s research focuses on host pathogen interactions, specifically how Salmonellainteracts with the microbiota and host immunity. (Source)
