About Timothy P. Loonam, DVM

Dr. Tim Loonam is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine where he also received awards for Small Animal Medicine and Surgery and Equine Surgery and Field Services. He attended veterinary school on a full scholarship awarded by the United States Army Veterinary Corps, and an assignment to Ft Jackson brought him and his family to Lexington.
Dr. Loonam’s final assignment was a thirteen-month deployment to Iraq with an Airborne Veterinary Detachment, where he traveled throughout the country caring for Military Working Dogs. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service.

Dr. Loonam loves all aspects of mixed-animal veterinary practice but especially enjoys small animal and equine dentistry, orthopedics, and training and behavior consultations to help get new puppies, kitten, and horse owners off to a good start with their pets. Dr. Loonam practices state-of-the-art pain management techniques and is a member of the International Academy of Veterinary Pain Management. He is also a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians, and the American Veterinary Medical Association where he served on the Member Services Committee.

Dr. Loonam and his wife, Betsy, and their two children, Jack and Katie, live in Lexington where they enjoy their two Border Collies, ‘Pete’ and ‘Lacy’, and their cats ‘Larry’ and ‘Lulu’. (Source)
