Influence of age and experience rider on differentiate the behaviour of recreational horses being prepared for use.

The research investigates the impact of certain factors related to the rider (such as age, experience, preparation routines, and mode of communication) on the behavior of horses used for recreational purposes. Conclusions drawn include that horses respond better when handled by familiar riders and that their behavior alters during different preparatory activities, but rider age and vocal commands do not influence horse behavior significantly.

Research Objective and Methodology

• The research aims to determine how certain factors related to the rider like the rider’s age and experience, the type of preparatory activities before a ride, and the rider’s use of voice commands (test variant) might affect the behavior of recreational horses during their preparation for use.
• To do this, six adult, hot-blooded recreational horses were tested with two female riders that were familiar to them and two that were strangers.
• The riders’ ages were also varied, with two riders aged 12 years and the other two riders aged 30 years.

Assessment and Analysis

• The horses’ behavior was assessed by a behaviorist during several pre-riding activities; these included entering the stable box, grooming the horse, cleaning its hooves, bridling it, saddling up, and leading it to the riding arena.
