[Ultrasonography in gynecologic diagnosis].
Abstract: 1. At present there is a wide field of applications for ultrasonography in gynaecological examinations. 2. Pregnancy (under clinical conditions) may be diagnosed in mares from day 14, in cows from day 25/26, in small ruminants from day 35, in sows from day 28/30, in bitches from day 25/28 and in queens from day 20/25 on, either by demonstrating the embryonic vesicle or the embryo or fetus. 3. Control of ovulation is gaining importance in the mare, especially in artificial insemination. 4. The diagnosis of pathological processes in the uterus of mares, bitches and queens is improved considerably by the ultrasonography. 5. It is expected that the field of application will increase in the near future.

This research paper presents the various applications of ultrasonography in gynecologic examinations in various farm and pet animals. It discusses specific time frames for pregnancy diagnosis in different species and the use of this technology for monitoring ovulation cycle and diagnosing uterine abnormalities.
Ultrasonography Applications in Gynaecological Examinations
- The paper emphasizes the broad array of potential uses for ultrasonography in conducting gynecological check-ups in animals. Ultrasonography is a versatile non-invasive imaging tool that allows for real-time viewing of the internal structures and processes. This is particularly valuable in identifying changes or abnormalities in the reproductive organs of animals.
Pregnancy Diagnosis With Ultrasonography
- Different species of animals such as mares, cows, small ruminants, sows, bitches, and queens have distinct time frames when pregnancy can be accurately diagnosed using ultrasound technology. This procedure usually involves detecting either the embryonic vesicle or the embryo or fetus itself. The paper provides these time periods: mares (14 days), cows (25/26 days), small ruminants (35 days), sows (28/30 days), bitches (25/28 days), and cats or queens (20/25 days).
Ovulation Control and Ultrasonography
- The research also highlights the increasing value of ultrasonography in controlling ovulation, particularly in mares. As artificial insemination becomes widespread, precise tracking and control of ovulation through ultrasonography can result in more successful pregnancies.
Diagnosis of Uterine Pathologies
- The paper notes that ultrasonography is an efficient tool for diagnosing pathological changes in the uterus of mares, bitches, and queens. Such diagnoses can provide crucial information about the health status of the animal and influence treatment decisions.
Future Applications of Ultrasonography
- The paper concludes by anticipating an increase in the future applications of ultrasonography in veterinary gynaecological examinations. With technology advancements, it may be utilized to obtain more detailed images or for new diagnostic applications.
