Genetic polymorphism of Hucul horse population based on 17 microsatellite loci.
Acta biochimica Polonica    January 17, 2014   Volume 60, Issue 4 761-765
Fornal A, Radko A, Piestrzyńska-Kajtoch A.Short tandem repeat (STR) loci, i.e. microsatellites are a class of genetic markers commonly used for population studies and parentage control. This study determined the usefulness of microsatellite markers recommended by International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) for identification and pedigree analysis in horses based on the example of Polish Hucul horse population (Equus caballus). The set of seventeen microsatellites loci was tested (AHT4, AHT5, ASB2, HMS2, HMS3, HMS6, HMS7, HTG10, HTG4, HTG6, HTG7, VHL20, ASB17, ASB23, CA425, HMS1, LEX3) for 216 individuals. All samples were genotyp...
Comparative structural and functional studies of avian and mammalian hemoglobins.
Acta biochimica Polonica    October 5, 2002   Volume 49, Issue 2 459-470
Ajloo D, Moosavi-Movahedi AA, Sadeghi M, Gharibi H.Thermal stabilities of chicken, grey lag goose (Anser anser), turkey as avian hemoglobins (Hbs); and human, bovine, sheep and horse as mammalian Hbs in hemolysate form were investigated and compared with oxygen affinities taken from literature. The thermal stability was obtained from thermal profiles using temperature scanning spectrophotometry. The buffer conditions were 50 mM Tris, pH 7.2, and 1 mM EDTA. The average of the inverse temperature transitions, average hydrophobicity, total van der Waals volume, partial molal volume and hydration potential were calculated by computational methods....
Biosynthesis and distribution of leucocyte elastase inhibitor. Production of recombinant inhibitor.
Acta biochimica Polonica    January 1, 1996   Volume 43, Issue 3 497-501
Kasza A, Korpula-Mastalerz R, Rose-John S, Dubin A.The horse leucocyte elastase inhibitor (HLEI), present in neutrophils, monocytes and bone marrow cells, is apparently a cytoplasmic protein which is not released from cells even in response to stimulation with lipopolysaccharide, phorbol ester, tumour necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1 or elastin degradation products. Although no expression of the inhibitor was detected in neutrophils, both monocytes and bone marrow cells were efficient in its synthesis. Using a new expression vector pREST5d, recombinant inhibitor was produced in a large quantity in a soluble form, with a yield of 88 mg per ...

Molecular properties of multiple forms of acid phosphatase from horse liver.
Acta biochimica Polonica    January 1, 1975   Volume 22, Issue 3 201-209
Wasyl Z.1. Horse liver acid phosphatase was separated into two partially purified fractions differing in molecular weight (enzyme I about 100 00, enzyme II about 25 000). 2. Enzyme I was separated into several subfractions by DEAE-cellulose chromatography and isoelectric focusing. 3. Molecular weight, sedimentation coefficient and effective molecular radii were determined for acid phosphatases I and II by gel filtration and density-gradient centrifugation.
