Shape and joint angle data for seven European horse breeds and their repeatability. Conformation traits are important in the selection and distinction between horse breeds, but tend to be evaluated subjectively within a breed and cannot be compared between them. The horse shape space model, using a combination of 253 landmarks and semi-landmarks, provides objective information on the shape of a horse photographed from the side that can be compared between breeds. In this dataset, we are providing the full set of 253 landmarks for 1241 horses from seven breeds, including an R code file to extract joint angle information and transform the raw data into csv files for further ana...
Inertial sensor data of horses from four breeds at walk and trot in hand on a straight line. Horses have been used and bred for centuries for their movements. However, specific breeds are expected to have different movement capabilities. We have measured 425 horses from four different breeds at walk and trot on a straight line using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) system (EquiMoves®). This article describes how the data was collected, filtered and analysed to provide a useable dataset of 28 movement variables. It provides a full protocol for field measurements and requirements for adequate trials for analysis. Intra-class correlation coefficient estimates are also provided to asse...
An archaeozoological dataset for 3000 years of animal management in the Netherlands. This paper presents an archaeozoological dataset listing numbers of identified fragments for domestic cattle, sheep/goat, pig and horse from archaeological sites in the Netherlands dating from the Bronze Age to the Early Medieval period (c. 2000 BC - AD 1050) [1]. In addition to fragment numbers per species, the geo-referenced dataset includes chronological information, site descriptions, and bibliographic references. Data were collected from tables listing numbers of bone fragments per animal species as found in published and unpublished reports. Number of identified bone fragments per animal...
Historical dataset of osteological and archaeological records for equines on Crete. We gathered evidence on the occurrence of equines in the island of Crete from the Neolithic until 1895. We relied on published archaeological and osteological records plus on historical written documents. Our dataset includes a description of the type of evidence, where this was located, and the associated absolute and relative chronologies. The collected data can be used to investigate the past spread of equids in Crete ( and ), their socioeconomic status, and the development of the local Cretan breed. The dataset is made available via the Abraxas data community within the Pandora data platfo...
Dataset of the sperm proteome of stallions with different motility. This paper provides a detailed set of data on how the stallion sperm proteome differs among stallions with different sperm motilities, although within normal ranges. Findings distinguish proteins that may help to identify stallions of superior sperm motility. Sperm proteins were analyzed using a UHPLC/MS/MS system comprising of an Agilent 1290 infinity series UHPLC coupled to an Agilent 6550 Q-TOF mass spectrometer (Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, USA). These data can be used to disclose potential targets to identify good sperm samples and to study specific pathways involved in the regu...
Gait quality scoring data of Franches-Montagnes stallions at walk and trot on a treadmill by experts of the breed and their reliability. This article presents the data obtained from the scoring of 24 stallions of the Franches-Montagnes (FM) horse breed by six experts of this breed. The experts scored six traits at walk and eight at trot from the video recordings of these stallions walking and trotting on a treadmill during an incremental speed test. The scores were given on a scale of one to nine. All experts scored the same videos twice (two scoring tests) with a time interval of two years, and without feedback from the first scoring. Video sequences were presented in a different order between first and second scoring. The int...
Dataset of single nucleotide polymorphisms and comprehensive proteomic analysis of Streptococcus equi subsp. equi ATCC 39506. subspecies () is an opportunistic pathogen and a major causative agent of equine strangles, a contagious respiratory infection in horses and other equines. In this study, we provide the dataset associated with our research publication "-derived extracellular vesicles as a vaccine candidate against infections" [1]. We describe the genomic differences between 4047 and ATCC 39506 and outline the comprehensive proteome information of various fractions, including the whole cell lysate, membrane proteome, secretory proteome, and extracellular vesicle proteome. In addition, we included a dataset...
Equine diet during protohistoric times in the Northeast of the Iberian Peninsula: Stable isotope data (C, N) from bone collagen. The analysis of stable isotopes in bone collagen allows us to infer the diet of the animals studied. This dataset consists of isotopic signatures (δC and δN) obtained by isotope ratio mass spectrometry from the skeletal remains of 42 equines (horse, ass and their hybrids) from the Can Roqueta site (Sabadell, Northeast Iberian Peninsula). Their chronology spans from Late Bronze Age to Late Roman Period, with particular emphasis on the Early Iron Age. These animals were found in storage silos and graves and were probably sacrificed as ritual offerings. The isotopic values are accompanied by da...
Data set of the proteome of fresh and frozen thawed stallion spermatozoa. This paper provides the dataset of proteins of stallion ejaculates before and after cryopreservation. The data report the analysis and identification of stallion sperm proteins obtained from the same ejaculates and split in two subsamples. The first aliquot consisted on fresh spermatozoa and the second aliquot was frozen and thawed spermatozoa. Samples were analyzed using a UHPLC/MS/MS system consisting of an Agilent 1290 infinity series UHPLC coupled to an Agilent 6550 Q-TOF mass spectrometer (Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, USA). We provide a data set of 2226 different proteins, with ...
Data from cyclic tensile tests on sutured organs to evaluate creep behaviour, distraction, and residual thread strength. A number of applications in the surgical practice are based on tensile sutures aimed to keep soft tissues in place and compensate the exit of neuropathies, prolapses or general tissue relaxation. Long-term behaviour of these constructs need to be carefully examined in order to define tensile forces to be applied and to compare different suture anchors. Data here reported refer to equine laryngoplasties, where a suitable loading system has been designed in order to be able to test sutures in-sito, applying known forces ("On-site testing of sutured organs: an experimental set up to cyclically ti...
Dataset of endometrial blood flow from pregnant and non-pregnant mares on day 7 and 8 post-ovulation. This article provides the dataset for the use of power Doppler ultrasound to assess the equine uterus from the recent research article titled "Power Doppler can detect the presence of 7-8 days conceptuses prior to flushing in an equine embryo transfer program"(1). The vascularization of the endometrium was objectively assessed in mares by quantification of pixels in bitmap format (BMP) using computer assisted analysis of images. Fifty-two mares were examined on days 7 (26 mares) and 8 (26 mares) post-ovulation prior to performing flushing procedures for embryo recovery. Receiver operating char...
Dataset concerning haematological and biochemical parameters changes in show jumping horses subjected to exercise and plasmapheresis session. This article presents data on the effect of plasmapheresis on clinical, haematological and biochemical parameters in horses following exercise and after a plasmapheresis session. This blood filtration technique was realised on six jumping horses (plasmapheresis group) that underwent three consecutive days of graded physical exercise. The control group (n = 6) went through the same exercise but was not subjected to the plasmapheresis session. Blood was sampled before and after each exercise, also at the beginning and the end of plasmapheresis session. The presented data was obtained by measur...
